Amy Spotted on the Burke-Gilman Trail

Amy Spotted on the Burke-Gilman Trail

Amy Spotted on the Burke-Gilman Trail

Amy was spotted on the Burke-Gilman Trail. The BGT is a bike trail that runs from Seattle around Lake Washington into Redmond. On a gorgeous summer morning in the Pacific Northwest, there’s not much better than getting the bike out and cruising around north Lake Washington. The crisp air and the gentle lake breeze makes it ideal for an outing. Amy finds that riding her bike on the BGT is great for clarity and brainstorming. The outdoor setting and peacefulness (unless you’re about to get run over by the hardcore racers) provides the perfect backdrop for much inspiration for places to put characters near water, various trees, plants, and just plain nature. Amy dreams up many plot points for furture stories. And, it’s great exercise! If you have a chance to get out biking this summer, Amy says “do it”! Plus, you might spot Amy, too. 🙂

Amy Spotted at Prince of Persia

Amy Spotted at Prince of Persia

Amy was spotted at the movie theater seeing Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Amy absolutely loved this movie. The show far surpassed Amy’s admittedly low expectations. It’s got action, romance, and a well constructed story. For almost the entire movie, Jake Gyllenhaal is sweaty and dirty. And Gemma Arterton has a strength of character that blends nicely with his muscles. Amy was very skeptical about the casting and chemistry between these two, but found that from moment one, they belonged together. Other than the creepy flies swarming around the dark theater and crawling on the big screen, Amy loved everything about the movie and highly recommends the adventure. Well done, Disney!
Given that summer movie season has blossomed, stay tuned for more Amy Spotteds. Amy will be spotted at more movies…or elsewhere.

Amy Spotted at the Ocean

Amy Spotted At The Ocean

Amy Spotted At The Ocean

Amy was spotted at the ocean. The Pacific Ocean at Pacific Beach to be exact. Amy took a weekend out at the ocean to relax, refresh, and rejuvinate. She planned to get a ton of writing done, but only got a smidgen of writing done. The rest of the time was spent exploring the adventures of the sandy beach, crashing waves, and breathing in the crisp fresh salty air. Amy enjoyed watching the weather roll in, experiencing puffy clouds, sunshine, clear skies, colorful pink, red, and orange sunsets.

Amy also loved the beach wildlife: seagulls and sandpipers combing the beach, and dogs playing with driftwood and crab shells. The ocean waves are both powerful and peaceful at the same time. Nature at its finest, truly inspiring and clearing Amy’s mind all at once. Amy hopes everyone can experince the humbling calm of the ocean. Stay tuned for a new Amy Spotted in a few weeks…

Amy Spotted in Disneyland

Amy Spotted in Disneyland

Amy missed a week to be spotted because she was on location. Amy was spotted in Disneyland! Anaheim, CA couldn’t have been better. The weather was sunny and 75 every single day. Full disclosure: there were a few clouds one day. Even when “morning drizzle” was expected, it was blue sky and sunny. Amy will take that kind of drizzle any day. The trip was Amy’s annual sister’s vacation, so Amy’s sister Laura enjoyed an Amy Spotted outing as well. Amy practically grew up going to Disneyland almost every year, so it’s been a blast to witness the evolution from Park to Resort. Though, no matter the changes, Amy’s favorites remain, namely Pirates of the Caribbean. Hey, they should make a movie out of that ride! Amy’s other favorites are the Haunted Mansion and the Indiana Jones Temple of the Forbidden Eye. The Matterhorn and Space Mountain are also super fun. Also, Amy was surprised to see that Captain Eo had returned. With fear of dating herself, Amy remembers watching the cool 3D show during its first run. Really, Amy can’t think of anything in Disneyland that she doesn’t like. Her favorite meal is eating on the water’s edge at the Blue Bayou. Though, the Corn Dog Wagon is a very close second. It’s the most fun and, although it sounds strange, relaxing vacation of Amy’s year. Being immersed in nothing but dreams, imagination, and pure joy is truly something to cherish. Amy’s mind ran wild with all the adventures that could come from each minute within the world of Disneyland. Amy hopes that everyone can experience the sheer happiness and suspension of reality one can experience when in Disneyland.

Amy Spotted at Book Signing with Fellow Dorchester Authors

Amy was spotted at the Redmond Town Center Borders. She participated in a book siging and author panel with fellow Dorchester authors Gayle Ann Williams, Rose Lerner, and Marie-Claude Bourque. Amy had a great time with the other authors as we talked about how our books came to be and answered questions from a lively audience. There was plenty of chocolate and great fun. It was interesting to hear the different experiences and processes from everyone, which proves there is no one, single path on the road to publishing. Amy hopes everyone who came had a wonderful time and as much fun as she did. Check back in two weeks to see where Amy’s spotted next.

Amy Spotted in the Husky Hall of Fame

Amy Spotted by Amy

Amy Spotted by Amy

Amy was spotted in the Husky Hall of Fame at the University of Washington, inside Bank of America Arena at Hec Edmundson Pavilion. Amy was a member of the inagural UW women’s soccer team way back in the days of yore. She helped pave the way for today’s youngsters. Amy’s standing by the picture of the inagural team. Things were a lot different back then. Check out our duds (Amy’s #20, front row, second one from the right). Now, they have sleek uniforms. We played on astroturf in Husky Stadium. Now, they have a nice grass facility at Husky Soccer Stadium. Amy’s hair was long and in a ponytail, now it’s short. Yet through it all, Amy did have a great time. She learned a lot of things that transverse beyond the soccer fieild. Things like teamwork and hard work. Also, to get better, you need to practice the little things. Amy applies these lessons to her writing. She writes alone, but it takes the team of her editor, critique group, and Mom to make the story the best it can be. Amy reads a ton, attends workshops, and listens to podcasts to keep learning and improving. You can always get better. Finally, to succeed at anything, it takes hard work and dedication. Every time Amy sees the pioneering team in the Hall fo Fame, she is humbled by being among the greatest Huskies to play and impact their sport.

Amy Spotted in Arizona

Amy Spotted in Arizona

Amy Spotted in Arizona

Amy was spotted in Arizona. Amy went to get away from the northwest winter and get some sun. In a cruel twist of fate, the northwest was warmer and drier than the desert. Amy went to a Phoenix Coyotes hockey game and a Spring Training baseball game, and even saw a bobcat. Amy also got in a great hike, even though the sky opened up and the pouring rain came down and drenched her. The hike’s natural landscape truly inspired Amy. Usually brown and weathered, the raw foliage was green and lively, courtesy of the unusually wet weather. Many kinds of cactus plants, red rocks, and petroglyphs were spotted on the hike. Amy’s imagination ran wild, envisioning the great trecherous dangers hidden in the desert for action heroines and heroes to explore. She’ll log the setting away for future story use for sure. But the greatest thing about the trip was the Oscar party. Amy loves the Red Carpet. Best dressed=Sandra Bullock. Worst dressed=Charlize Theron’s dress with Princess Leia buns.

Amy Spotted at Emerald City Comic Con 2010

Amy was spotted at the Emerald City Comic Con 2010 in Seattle. Amy channelled her inner geek and had the chance to meet an original science-fiction icon Leonard Nimoy. And, Buck Rogers’ Wilma Deering herself, the graceful Erin Gray. She also chatted with the Chief, Aaron Douglas from Battlestar Galactica, one of Amy’s favorite shows. Original and reimagined. The original Star Trek was the first sci-fi show Amy ever watched. Buck Rogers and Battlestar Galactica were also favorites of Amy’s while growing up. They heavily influenced Amy, instilling thrilling adventures and action heroes/heroines, and her love of science-fiction into her imagination. Attending the ECCC is always a treat and provides Amy with a lot of memories and story starters.

Olympic Rings Flag
Amy was spotted at the Vancouver 2010 Olympics. Amy fulfilled her lifelong dream of going to the Olympics. As a spectator, not a participant. It was an amazing beyond words experience. Amy and her sister watched the USA Women’s Hockey Team beat China at the UBC Thunderbird Arena. The energy was incredible and chanting U-S-A has never been so much fun. Knowing it wasn’t just a hockey game, but an Olympic hockey game, provided a surreal experience. After the game, Amy headed into downtown Vancouver to see the Olympic flame up close. Through a massive swarm of humanity, she finally got there. Again, a surreal experience to see something live and in person that holds such history and significance. In FALLEN ROGUE, Harper Kane was an Olympic Swimmer. After actually being a part of the Olympic experience, seeing in person the commitment and joy on the athletes’ faces and feeling the energy and devotion of the crowd, Amy can now really appreciate the true inspiration of the Olympic Games. Truly a day to remember forever! Amy can’t wait to apply her Olympic experience to future stories!!

Amy Spotted with a Sling

Amy Spotted with a Sling

Amy Spotted with a Sling

Amy wasn’t spotted anywhere the last two weeks because she was spotted with a sling. Amy had shoulder sugery, so she was stuck at home. Not very exciting or fun, but the furthest she went anywhere was the couch. The good news was that through the painkiller drug enduced dreams, Amy had plenty of time to think up some exciting, albeit outlandish, story ideas! Many adventures await from Amy’s imagination. So, inspiration was still able to be found. Amy’s now mobile, so check back in two weeks to see where Amy will be spotted. And, given that Amy’s been nowhere for a few weeks, it should be a good one!!
